This is an drawing warm-up exercise. We often use it to explore a material, such as a new pencil, watercolor, or marker. In this video, we'll show you how to create grayscale with a standard, everyday pencil. You can use this technique again and again to explore the materials you like to work with!

What you need:

  • A standard pencil, or any kind of drawing tool you want to try out.
  • Paper
  • A ruler
  • Eraser
