About Westinghouse Arts Academy

Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School is a public high school located east of Pittsburgh. We’re tuition-free, and open to any student in grades 9-12 who is located in Pennsylvania. Westinghouse Arts Academy is dedicated to achievement in both traditional academics as well as six unique and comprehensive arts programs.

Our school operates like most other schools so far as academics goes, offering everything needed for grades 9-12 to graduate and move on to college or careers. Where we're different: we concentrate electives in the arts. This affords creative students the opportunity to study arts deeply and broadly during their school day. Our programs include:

• Dance: a rigorous program to develop dancers across all forms, from ballet and jazz to modern and tap.
• Music: two tracks support either singers in vocal music, or members of bands and orchestras in instrumental.
• Theatre: develop acting skills for the stage and screen, or combine with dance and vocal to study musical theatre.
• Studio Art: a traditional visual art program for painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and more.
• Digital Art: technology-driven arts... video production, graphic design and photography, driven by the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Literary Art: to hone creative skills across genres for storytellers with a passion for writing.

Until now, many families have missed out on arts-focused education because transportation wasn't provided by home districts. However, this year, we're proud to be expanding access to families across Western Pennsylvania!

Can we pick you up?

Westinghouse Arts Academy is a charter high school offering arts-focused high school education to any Pennsylvania student in grades 9-12. Transportation is provided by school districts within a 10-mile radius of our school, but that leaves a lot of people looking for a ride. 

So, we are exploring bus routes for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond. Eventually we anticipate we will run many bus routes. For the next school year, we are hoping to start in areas where there are at least 6 brand new students joining us for the year. The busses will, of course, also carry students from the area who already attend.

Bus routes under consideration include:

• East, running along Route 30 from Greensburg and Latrobe.
• South, accommodating a TBD route based on demand from families in South Hills communities.
• North, accommodating a TBD route based on demand from families in North Hills communities.
• Any other area where there’s enough demand. Mon Valley, New Kensington, and west of the city are other areas where we suspect this is true.
